Coventry University is inviting applications from suitably-qualified graduates for a Trailblazer fully funded PhD studentship within the Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling (CSMM) to work on this project about Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Channel Modelling for Internet of Wearable Thing (IoWT) Communications. Our Centre provides a hub to develop cutting edge research in the areas of AI, Data Science and Future Computing, linking fundamental science to real-world applications. Data Science deals with the analysis and exploitation of large amounts of data drawing together disciplines as diverse as Computer Science, AI, Statistics and Mathematics. This projects sits within the ‘AI for Cyber Physical Systems’ research theme of the centre.
The advent of 5G and development of 6G will allow for the connection of vast numbers of wearable devices, generating large volumes of data. To handle the Big Data expected to be generated in future IoWT communications, we need to acquire a fundamental understanding of the propagation mechanisms encountered in IoWT communications as well as develop efficient methodologies for wireless channel modelling. Research onto the convergence of AI and wireless communication is receiving considerable attention on a global scale. Encouraged by this, this project will seek to develop AI-based models to accurately characterise the signal propagation experienced in IoWT communications, and to predict the behaviour of user’s activity and shadowing. The research methodology includes experimental design, channel measurements, signal processing, mathematical analysis and empirical analysis, leading to new impactful models enabling the future IoWT.
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive research training including technical, personal and professional skills. All researchers at Coventry University (from PhD to Professor) are part of the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability and Development, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities.
The Trailblazer fully funded PhD studentship is for 3.5 years and provides full tuition fees plus a tax-free stipend. Stipend rates will be equivalent to those set by UKRI and will rise annually with a projected average increase of 1.25% per year. Additional travel, conference costs, consumables, and/or bench fees are funded by the CSMM.
