Bill Lee (Professor of Materials in Nuclear Energy and Extreme Environments) hosted an online workshop catered to Early Career Researchers offering ‘Top Tips’ on ‘Being an Effective PI’. We were delighted to welcome attendees from across our network and the wider academic community to provide ECRs with hints and tips on how to lead a project team step-by-step, as they embark on their research careers.
The workshop offered advice from Bill Lee who after over 35 years in academia, over 450 publications and being Director at the Centre for Nuclear Engineering (to name a few of his accolades) is well-practiced in how to lead and co-ordinate projects. He elaborated on helpful tactics on how to gain funding through good proposal writing, how to appoint the best team for the job, mentoring, and how to continute being an effective leader even once the project is complete. This two-part discussion was followed by an opportunity for Q&A where all queries were answered by Bill, addressing issues such as networking in industry and how to effectively PI in the post-COVID online sphere. You can view Bill's slides below.
Keep an eye out for future updates as our 'Top Tips' series continues.
