Research Associate for Digital Trust and Security Wanted

A Research Associate is required to work on the Privacy, Trust and Data Protection project within the Digital Trust and Security programme. The project is led by Professor Mark Elliot and the wider programme is directed by Professor Emma Barrett as one of the Digital Futures themes at the University of Manchester.

Digital Technologies, Power and Control is hiring!

The Open University is looking for a Research Associate in Human Computer Interaction to join SPRITE+ Digital Technologies, Power and Control challenge working group!

The research will enrich understanding between citizens and companies and include playing a lead role in the design, conduct, analysis and dissemination of a feasibility test aimed at exploring how people from tech savvy marginalised communities interact with digital technologies.

Deadline: 11 Jan 2021, at 12:00.

SOUPS 2021 Preliminary Call for Papers

The Seventeenth Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS 2021) will take place on August 8–10, 2021, and will be co-located with the 30th USENIX Security Symposium in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Mandatory Paper Registration Deadline: Thursday, 18 Feb 2021.

We are hosting a virtual showcase event on 14 January 2021. This will be a full day interactive virtual event and will provide a platform for academics and stakeholders from government, law enforcement and business to discuss recent research findings, follow on activities and impact generation. Congratulations to Dirk van der Linden and the team, whose article on "Cybersecurity for smart farming: socio-cultural context matters" was published in IEEE Technology & Society Magazine 39(4).

Congratulations to Gilad L. Rosner, who has been invited to give a talk to the UN Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations on the politics and problems of facial recognition technology.

Congratulations to Elvira Perez Vallejos, Ansgar Koene, and the team at ReEnTrust who have recently hosted a webinar on rebuilding and enhancing trust in algorithms. The write up is available on Policy Connect.

Plenty of publications from Ansgar Koene, including an interview about his work, a podcast on content moderation and mis/disinformation, a panel discussion at the Internet Governance Forum on "How do you embed trust and confidence in AI", and a webinar on AI - Security & Challenges.
