The government has launched a consultation on a national Cyber-Physical Infrastructure

The consultation aims to explore the opportunities, benefits and challenge of connected cyber-physical systems and understand the value of, and options for, an underpinning Cyber-Physical Infrastructure. It will be open for 10 weeks, closing on 11 May. Find out more here.

RISCS have a call for presentations for an organised session at the EU Conference on Social Networks (EUSN 2022) – Organised Session 16: Social Cybersecurity: Convergence of Social Network Analysis in Cyber. The aim is to develop ‘social cybersecurity’ as a framework, soliciting
methodological, conceptual, and empirical contributions that model, predict, and/or explain how social ties that are created and maintained

SPRITE+ secures additional funding to develop its work

SPRITE+ has secured a follow-on award from the Engineering and PhysicalSciences Research Council (EPSRC), which will enable us to enhance research support, extend our international reach, and continue to prioritise engagement and collaboration across the TIPS community.

This £2.6 million follow-on award will be supplemented by £2.3 million from institutional contributions and project partner in-kind commitments.

SPRITE+ Expert Fellows Meeting coming soon on 11-12 April

Our Expert Fellows meeting will take place in April at the spectacular De Vere Cranage Estate in Cheshire. We have a great couple of days planned including guest speakers, a social dinner, and lots of networking time. This event will be an opportunity for engagement and collaboration from researchers representing STEM, social sciences and humanities as well as key stakeholders and project partners.

During our meeting we'll be working together to scope the future of digital Trust, Identity, Privacy, and Security (TIPS) and develop the agenda for SPRITE+ for the next few years. Stakeholders - including industry reps, government, and UKRI - will be closely involved and our recommendations will inform future funding and policy decisions.


SPRITE+ Top Tips for ECRs: Being an Effective PI

Bill Lee (Professor of Materials in Nuclear Energy and Extreme Environments) hosted an online workshop catered to Early Career Researchers offering ‘Top Tips’ on ‘Being an Effective PI’. We were delighted to welcome attendees from across our network and the wider academic community to provide ECRs with hints and tips on how to lead a project team, as they embark on their research careers.

SPRITE+ to exhibit at CYBERUK 2022

SPRITE+ will exhibit at CYBERUK 2022, the UK Government’s flagship cyber security event in Newport, as part of the Greater Manchester Cyber Ecosystem. Held over two days, CYBERUK 2022 will be attended by more than 1500 delegates, integrating cyber security leaders with technical professionals, strengthening the cyber security community. It will provide a key opportunity for the whole cyber security community to reconnect, discuss business needs and review the changing threat landscape.

SPRITE+ Co-Director, Stacey Conchie, Expert Fellows David Ellis and Paul Taylor, and Dr Heather Shaw have just published a paper titled 'Behavioral Consistency in the Digital Age' in Volume 33, Issue 3 of Psychological Science.

SPRITE+ Expert Fellow, Vitor Jesus, has released a new publication titled "Consent Receipts For a Usable And Auditable Web of Personal Data".

Professor Bill Lee has recently written an article for The Conversation titled 'We're all radioactive - so let's stop being afraid of it'. He has also received a Lifetime Career Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Waste Management Symposia. Congratulations!

SPRITE+ Expert Fellow, Martin Gallagher, has published a book chapter titled 'Lone Wolf Terrorists: Examining Motives and Methods of Stand Alone Terrorists' within 'Indoctrination to Hate' edited by Prof Ed Dunbar of UCLA. He also attended an advisory meeting with the EU Radicalisation Awareness Network as an invited expert.

SPRITE+ Expert Fellow, Joseph Da Silva, has recently published an article in the Computers and Security journal titled Cyber security and the Leviathan.

SPRITE+ Expert Fellow, Marie Oldfield, will be chairing a panel at DTX Manchester on the 28 April on Bias, Data and AI. She is also to take on the Executive Committee EDI role at the Institute of Science and Technology. after setting up the Women in Tech and AI Special Interest Group.

SPRITE+ Member, Ola Michalec, has published a report with PETRAS titled How to Talk about Cybersecurity of Emerging Technologies: A Report to Board Level Executives in the Energy Sector'.

SPRITE+ Member, Yang Lu, has recently published two journal articles: 'How data-sharing nudges influence people's privacy preferences: A machine learning-based analysis', and 'From data flows to privacy-benefit trade-offs: A user-centric semantic model'.

SPRITE+ Member, Maria Bada, and her team published a policy brief report after a workshop on ransomware organised by RISCS.

SPRITE+ Member Mohammad Shojafar and his colleagues have recently published "Slight: A lightweight authentication scheme for smart healthcare services”, "An authentication and key agreement scheme for smart grid" and "DisBezant: Secure and Robust Federated Learning Against Byzantine Attack in IoT-Enabled MTS”.

SPRITE+ Member Charles Weir and colleagues have explored the findings from the world's largest security survey in IEE S&P and published this blog entitled 'Experiences from the Dark Side of Participant Recruitment'..
