QUB LINAS Doctoral Training Programme

The QUB LINAS Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) seeks to develop a cohort of Doctoral Scholars who can address the implications of massive-scale data processing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for both the actual operation of algorithmically driven public decision-making in wider society, and within science and engineering.

They have multiple studentships available and welcome applicants for Autumn 2023 start.

To find out more about LINAS. there will be a briefing session on 9th November 2022 @ 12.30pm.

Request for experts on child online harms to complete survey

While there are many security and safety risks for children online, what is not yet known is what the possibility is of these risks causing harm. SPRITE+ Expert Fellow Karen Renaud and colleague Suzy Prior are looking for experts on child online harms to complete an anonymous study which takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Participants will be asked to rate the possibility of a child facing a range of online harms. The study can be found here.

Community of Interest: Communicating Cybersecurity - 'Stakeholder Mapping: Who communicates cyber security to whom?'

Join us on 22 November 2022 for our interactive session, 'Stakeholder Mapping: Who communicates cyber security to whom?'

Through this event, we will collaboratively map the stakeholders involved in communicating cyber security. There will also be brief lighting talks from Dr Ola Michalec (University of Bristol) and Dr Emma Moreton (University of Liverpool) who will report on their respective research projects.

The aim of the session is to build the emerging community of interest “Communicating Cybersecurity” launched earlier this year. To find out more about the Community and express your interest, click here. To register for the event on Eventbrite, click here.

Save the date: SPRITE+ Conference, Belfast, 28-29 June 2023

As we reach the end of our first four years, and look forward to the next four, save the date to come and celebrate with us!

We are holding a two-day conference in Belfast on 28-29 June 2023 at the Titanic Centre. We’ll be showcasing some of our achievements and working together to shape the next four years of SPRITE+.

The programme will include a range of activities, including talks from expert fellows, lightning talks from community members, posters from early-career researchers, presentations from clusters of sandpit-funded projects, and thematic workshops. Our schedule allows plenty of time for networking and informal discussion.

Keep an eye out for updates coming soon.

SPRITE+ supports Project Partner SASIG with their event 'Reaching the Boardroom'

SPRITE+ Members (and leaders of our Community of Interest on Communicating Cybersecurity) Ola Michalec and Emma Moreton will be attending the upcoming event from our Project Partner SASIG, 'Reaching the Boardroom'.

In this session, they will explore how we can more effectively communicate with boards by speaking their language, and ways we can quantify cyber to be more digestible. Their experience will generate ideas for future outputs of the community. If you are interested in attending this event, register here.
